mom used them for us and recommends it alot to her

No! Lotions will only irrate the acne even more. Their skin is very thin at this point and because of that it's also sensative. With my son I used petroleum jelly to help with the chaffing of his execezma. I just tried an herbal formula tonight on his cheeks (where the worst of it is) and am hoping that works.
You want something goopy that is fragrance and perfume free.
My son also had flaky hair. My peditrican told me it was cradle cap just not very severe. I used Mustela Infant Foaming soap. It worked wonders! It's more expensive but I've never had to battle that again and will use it on our next baby :))) With the soapy hair just take a comb and brush through the hair loosening any scales you can't see. Then rub the shampoo one more time and rinse. Viola! Cradle cap is gone!!

My son had the same type of thing on his scalp. The thing that worked best for us was to just leave it alone. I only washed his hair 2 times a week with johnson's baby shampoo...
as far as the dry skin, I'd put baby lotion or baby oil on it, but not more than once or twice a day. the more you rub it the more irritated it can get. plus, since it is an area that once had acne, you don't want to clog the pores again. Congratulations on the baby!!

My son is 5 months old right now and he has the same thing your son has. He has cradle cap and he used to have infant acne. Now he has eczema and his skin sometimes is so rough. I bought this baby eczema cream that really gentle and its really been working for my son. I think the cradle cap and flakes in his hair sometimes just irritates his skin and makes eczema flare up. Have you asked his doctor about his skin? I bought this cradle cap cream for my sons hair and it loosens up the flakes and I just wash it out. Eventually the cradle cap will go away as you son gets older.

My baby has (well I should say had) the same issue and our doctor said to use Head and Shoulders Dry Scalp. I've used it since the day he was boy and now he is 7mo. We still use it and love the smell.. He hasn't had that dry scalp since we started with it. Just be careful not to get it in his eyes since its not tear-free like baby shampoos. I would also use the little rectangular plastic brush that they used at the hospital to gently scrub his head with the shampoo. When he was first born I used some Aveno on his head after the bath. It took a couple times to clear it up, but once it was gone it stayed away.

both my kids had that scalp flake problem. I just bathed them and washed their hair and took a baby comb and combed their hair as they are in the tub. Its not all going to come out, but some does with every washing. The baby comb (they gave it to me at the hospital) helped the most. After I just put lotion or baby oil also just to soothe it. My 2nd child took a long time for his scalp to "clear off". A few months.

You want a small amount of lotion on his rough skin, but not too much that will cause breakouts. I've been told to put petroleum jelly on the scalp and rub gently with a towel or soft baby brush to loosen the flakes. But craddle cap is very normal and is not harmful to baby.

go buy some Eucerin creme, not the lotion, and use that on the baby. This was recommended to me by the pediatrician, and worked wonders!!
Its can be found at WalMart, CVS, Walgreens, etc.
What your son has is very common. I just can't remember the name of it.

Eczema patients can avoid scratchy fibers for softer ones like bamboo, cotton, or silk, which are gentler on the skin. Opting to buy organic fibers can also be a wise, healthy, and eco-friendly alternative. Learn here https://tr.im/AC2Ff
