Star wars Knights of the old republic?

Question

do you need to play STAR WARS - KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC 1 to understand STAR WARS - KNIGHTS OF THE OLD REPUBLIC 2 the sith lords.

I understand that the main characters are different but do you need to understand the 1st games story line to appreciate the sith lords. i dont wanna buy sith lords without understanding the background info, is it like watching empire strikes back without seeing a new hope???

No you don't because in the first 30 minutes of the game it does a brief recount of the first game. Where you the player decide if the characters from the first game are light side or dark side.

No not really.From what i remember from playing these games,you dont need to play the first before doing the second,on the sith lords i recall you get a light sabre early on as in the first game you dont recieve a sabre till about half way through.Both great games though,hope you enjoy them as much as i did

Not really, there are references but most of them are also explained in the game. However, the original KotOR is a an absolute classic and you should play it anyhow. In many ways, it's actually a better game than the second.

I personnally have both games, and i do not think it is important to play through the first one. If you had somebody to borrow the original from, it would be better, but you dont have to have it to understand the plot and story line

not really. it might be nice to know a bit more about the ancient star wars universe and you would have been introduced to swoop racing etc, but the storylines are totally unrelated
