You need to rewash the clothes. You can use Lemon or Lime dishwashing liquid. It works wonders on removing tough odors from fabrics. Tumble dry clothes immediately after washing, wet fabric gets mold and mildew pretty quickly when it just sits.
A white vinegar rinse might help too, but try the Lemon/ Lime Dishwashing liquid first. Good luck.

Hi there You need to launder the clothing and send the special items to the dry cleaners. Mold is a living organism. Regular washing should do the trick. I would add 1 cup white vinegar. Have a nice day.

In my experience (old clothes left in the back of a damp car), the best way to get rid of that nasty mold smell is to just wash the hell out of the clothes with really strong smelling laundry detergent and fabric softener. Then when you dry them, use strongly scented dryer sheets.

2 ways: put a cup of baking soda in hot water and dissolve. Add to washing machine and let it start to run to mix it in. Then, turn off the machine for about an hour and then let it finish. Should do it. OR in the laundry isle find a box of BORAXO powder laundry aid. It will "sweeten" any load of clothes. My mother used it on my Dad's work clothes when he got them greasy, it got the smell out and made the clothes look brighter!

I had this problem with storing baby clothes in my basement and my grandmother took care of the problem for me by simply washing them with a cup of white vinegar and then hanging them in the sun and letting them dry. Leave them out so the dew will fall on them and dry on their own in the sun the next day.... all day long and take them down before the dew falls. They will be really wrinkled and you can wash them again and dry as normal.

Soak in oxyclean or baking soda for one hour then wash normally (use the same water).
Hang clothing in open air to dry. Repeat if necessary.
