I am 6 months pregnat and just want this kid out of me. She kicks so much and moves so much that its incredibly painful. For the past week or two when I go to bed (around 10 pm) my husband is putting his hands on my belly. What the heck is he doing? He hasnt done this before, what is he doing?

My hubby has did this from day one (first was in awe of us being able to create a child) and since I can feel the baby kick (quickening) he doesn't want to miss the first kick he can feel even though it will be some weeks. Or if I feel really bad he will rub my tummy because he knows I am in pain and knows it makes me feel better. I think he loves the feel of your baby kick. Remember, he can not feel (the first kicks) these things good or bad so might want to experience the most he can. It's great that he is so proactive. We tend to bond with baby because of changes in our body. Daddies get this bond when they can feel the babies first kicks and are amazed every time he does kick. I see it as a new intimacy (though there is already alot) between mommy, daddy and baby.

I think that men feel kind of left out of our pregnancy. While we as mothers have connections to this little mystery person in every way, the fathers may not feel much of a connection, until they feel the life that is growing inside. Him feeling your belly is his physical connection to the child. This may deepen his emotional connection and help him form his own bond with the baby. I am 32 wks prego with my 3rd child. If my husband did not feel my belly I would be devastated thinking he had no attachment to my pregnancy. Don't worry, its what dads do...

Well, probably now that the baby is more active, and he can actually FEEL it moving, it makes your pregnancy more real to him. When only you can feel the new life inside of you, he does'nt get much of a chance to participate. Now that your baby is alot more active, it gives him the realization that there actually is a baby growing in there! Let him do it if it does'nt pester you too much...i see it as a way of him bonding with your soon to be child! P.S. in a short amount of time, your baby will be too big to move that much and that often. The closer you get to your due date, the more cramped it gets in there! Hang tight, you'll be O.K.! :)

If he's like I was, he wants to be more involved and experience as much physicallly as he possibly can. I couldn't get enough when both my children were in the womb. I was actually a little jealous that I couldn't experience more. If that's the case with him, and it causes you no discomfort, I would let him continue doing it. At least he's not becoming more distant like a lot of guys do when their wife/girlfriend starts getting bigger.

Other than trying to feel the baby...I can't think of anything else. When we our baby was 6 months along he would actually tap back at whoever was pushing on the belly.

He is probably trying to feel the baby kick. I put my hand on my wife's belly sometimes, too. Sometimes it's to feel the baby, sometimes it's because it makes me feel like I am protecting the baby. A little wierd, maybe, but that's how I feel. It's our first, too...

sounds to me like he is trying to bond with you and the baby by feeling it kick. try enjoying the attention instead of getting irritated by it!
