The story line ... because MY Imagination is MUCH more vivid and interesting than anything that any group of pictures can put together.

depends on what we are talking about. As far as telling a story about something as in the family i find it better to have a picture cause i can show people what i am telling about/

"They" say "one picture is worth a thousand words" so I'd have to go with the pictures -- although photos can be as manipulated as print can be prejudiced.
I have a good collection of (mostly children's) books sought out and saved specifically for their magnificent illustrations. (Mind you, it does help to know the story first!)
