How many days do you consecutively need to be living at the same address for it to be legally your "home address" I ask because I live with my partner but I work away quite a bit and she claims a discount on council tax as a singal occupant. Just want to make sure she's legally entitled to do that. I do have another address. Are their any website with further info?

The exact rules vary form location to location. In most cases, the intent for the home to be your primary home is more important than the actual time. In the case you describe, I doubt your 'partner' is legally entitled to the discount as a 'single occupant'.

Six months is the legal time limit for you to claim 1 address as your legal residence. Most advise that you allow 6 months & a few days. You must register this address with the post office & receive mail there. You do not have to be in continual residence, you could take a vacation, go on a business trip etc. This address should be on your drivers license or any other legal papers that could be used to prove that you live there at least 6 or more months of the year. A person is only allowed one legal residence.

If you're partners home is your main home then she cant get a discount. Main home equates to: is the majority of your 'stuff' there? does your mail go there? are you there more than youre away? are you partners as in you pay anything towards the other bills? would you class yourselves as 'man and wife' in the normal way of marriage.
If you fit the above and the council find out shes getting a discount, she could be prosecuted for fraud, but anyway will have to pay the whole discount back for as far back as the council decide you have been living there.
They will also look at things like: what address does your work, tax, NI and bank have for you.
