Actually the original German version of the song was 99 Luft Baloons, and the English version is 99 Red Baloons...probably because a literal translation of 99 air balloons would sound stupid so they chose a color to use instead.

first off the song was about communism. the artist who sang it was german. luft is the german word for red. the red ballons if the lyrics of the song represented panic. next time look it up instead of asking us on here.
