It is not in fact smoking cigarettes is worse for you than smoking marijuana. The govt. originally made it illegal in the 30s and 40s because it is something that minorities did mainly Mexicans and Blacks and it was a good excuse to jail them. People do not do bad things when they are high. People do very bad things when they are drunk especially on expensive hard liquor. The govt had another problem. How the hell are we going to tax this stuff if people can grow it at home. The cigarette companies and the liquor companies do not want any competition so it is illegal. I no longer smoke it but may again some day. 20 years from now it will be legal and people will not believe that it was illegal. It makes about as much sense to make marijuana illegal as making beer illegal in fact beer does far more harm- but not to the beer companies or the money that their taxes generate.

I truly believe it is sheer ignorance. It doesn't help any that alcohol is legal while pot is not. The facts are all there if only people would look at them. I know a whole lot of people who've died from the effects of alcohol, but not one from marijuana. It is also true that more people are killed in car accidents because alcohol was involved, but not so with smoking weed.
Certainly both can have a negative effect on one's health, but so can coffee, coke, sugar, fat... need I go on?
If you're going to say "no" to anything, make it alcohol.

It isn't neccesarily worse but when it gets to be emotionally addictive and causes a person to go nuts without it that is when it is bad. Alcohol will do that too and both will really cause a problem. I was in a marriage with a guy addicted to both had no money and went nuts on my kids and i without it so to answer the question here no it is not really worse than drinking.

Smoking marijuana can be very fun, but it is a habit that most often consumes a lot of your time and keeps you from progressing forward in your life. It tends to get in the way of many of life's valuable pursuits. It can lead you to many immoral activities. It can lead to heavier drug use. At the very least it can occupy the part of your life that often is occupied by religion and God. Since after a few years of smoking marijuana I found it was taking me away from God and sending my life in a downward direction so I stopped. I have often wondered if it adversely affected my long term memory and my motivation. I have found that a little amount of alcohol is not as bad for me as marijuana, but even alcohol takes away from my road to a closer walk with God.

Why do so many people think that marijuana isn't as bad as cigarettes? They have much more tar. Plus Getting drunk is part of our culture (sadly) while marijuana is outlawed.

Because they are ill-informed and since it is illegal it is considered bad.
It is not addicting. I have not smoked in 5 years. I do not have cravings. I also quite tobacco and have not had cravings. You know what is addictive?
Morphine or vicodin. When I come off of that stuff I have headaches for days and I want more. By the way, I had it administered to me in the hospital when I had my surgery.
There is not necessarily more tar because there are no additives in marijuana like there are in cigarettes. That is a misconception.
Cigarettes kill people because of the junk they add to them. Marijauna is all organic and all natural.

because people like that are stupid. drunk is simply LEGAL where marijuana isn't. im not saying marijuana's GOOD but most of the time you see peopel getting killed it is related to alcohol.. not marijuana. and because doign dumb things because of alcohol is legal, people interpret that as being "better".. when actually its taht much worse.

well i guess it is probably because marijuana is illegal and a brain altering drug. Its also not used openly often, where as drinking alcohol is very common in the world today.
