No one is really sure not even the Simpsons. There ar many Springfeilds in the U.S. They live in Springfield U.S.A.

They live in Springfield but the state is a mystery. I believe it changes all the time because sometimes the town has mountains and an ocean and other times there is a lake or desert near by. It's a running joke on the show that the characters live in Springfield USA with no specific state but rather characteristics from all of them depending on the episode.

They live in Springfield, but the show has never said exactly what state that is. They have hinted around--but they have never come out and said which one to be exact. Apparently there are many cities in various states named Springfield.

It's Springfield, and to the references that they suggest all the time it makes you think...They live near the ocean (Flander's beach house) It snows in winter, they sang a parody song (Springfield, Springfield) and Capitol City??? I think it's New York, but what do I know I'm just a crazy fan (that over analyzes!!)

Springfield is a very common name; it was chosen so that they would never have to name the state - we don't know what state they live in, Dude
