I hooked up my dvd recorder to my television with the red, white and yellow cable. I can watch movies and I even formated a dvd-rw. When I try to auto program the channels into the thing, all I get is static. I cannot view tv channels at all as long as the thing is turned on. I am assuming that I will not be able to record any shows because of this. What am I doing wrong??

Is there a reason why it needs to be hooked up to a vcr? Or should I just not question this? haha!

Can't do it that way. You have to hook it up to a VCR or your DVD must have a tuner.

If you have a VCR hook it up to the VIDEO OUTS to your DVD INs and your DVD outs to your TV and see if you see anything. If you SEE it in that configuration, then the DVD should record what you see.
