a) what is the ratio of HCO3 to H2CO3 in blood of pH 7.4? b) what is the ratio of HCO3 in an exhausted marathon runner whose blood pH is 7.1? Can you please tell me how to find this out?

I don't have a table of Ka values for carbonic acid and the bi-carbonate ion, but you would set up the problem as
(10^-7.4)(HCO3)/(H2CO3)=Ka (use the right one, there is a bicarbonate-carbonate Ka also.
Same deal for the marathon man problem, although as a sneaky hint, 0.3 pH units corresponds to a factor of 2 change towards the carbonic acid as the ratio.
