Do you need to subscribe to ESPN The Magazine directly from ESPN in order to become an ESPN Insider? In other words, if you subscribe from magazines.com or something like that, can you still get the same benefits?

According to this page on ESPN.com:

https://r.espn.go.com/espn/signup/step1?campaign=insider&source=Benefits

you can activate ESPN Insider access at no extra charge if you already subscribe to the magazine. It sounds like you can just subscribe through whatever provider you choose, then go to the website to sign up for ESPN Insider.

(FYI, there's a note on the Activation page stating that you will be enrolled for their automatic renewal program and that you'll receive an e-mail approximately 10 days before your credit card will be charged to notify you of the impending charge and how you can cancel if you don't wish to renew.)

If you want to confirm about the upgrade, you can contact ESPN at 888-549-ESPN.
