There is a place in southern Richland County near the town of Bellville, Ohio where you can prospect, dig, and pan for gold. It is on Clearfork Creek. Bellville is about 20 miles south of Mansfield, Ohio.

This is not hard rock vein mining. This is gold that was deposited by retreating glaciers.

This is a GPAA (Gold Prospectors Association of America) site and to the best of my knowledge, requires GPAA membership before you can participate. I have seen this site featured on their TV show.

No known hard rock veins exist in Ohio. What gold is present is placer gold from ice age glacial moraines.
