Most people can tolerate hot water up to 110 degrees for brief periods of time. Technically, hot water by itself can kill bacteria, but the necessary water temp to do so would have to be hotter than what we could tolerate during hand-washing. That said, you may have to briefly soak the cutting board in boiling water in the sink or wear some insulated, water-proof gloves. If I were you, I'd switch over to using a plastic cutting board for meats (a size small enough to fit in the automatic dishwasher) and save the wooden one for veggies. Wooden ones are just too absorbent--even repeated washing with water will make the wood dry out and warp a small, portable board.

i did away with my wooden cutting board along time ago when the ones came out that had the micro-ban made into them. but i used to wash by hand with soap, hot water and a clean dish cloth. and even now i only use one side for meat cutting and the other side for vegetable preparation. when I'm done i stick it in the dishwasher.

i wash mine in hot water for about 5 inutes then i pour some boiling hot water over to rinsh it off,,
after it dries,, i pour some peroxied over it to make sure everything is gone,, the peroxide will eveporate and not leave aany taste,,
i bought a plastic one then all i do is throw it in the dish washer,,, if u don;t have one u can do the same,, plastic is better they are now saying u can cut the wood and the bacteria seeps in and it never gets clean ,, that why i switched,,
