Obviously lots of others, but the Tlaxcala stayed independent though surrounded by aztecs.

I assume you mean other contempory Mesoamerican civilizations. In this case, the city-state of Tlaxcala was left as an independent enclave in the Aztec Empire. The Tlaxcalans helped Hernan Cortez defeat the Aztecs. The Tarascans, the Mixtecs, the Zapotecs, and the Mayans were also never conquered.
