i know what the word means but my friend doesn't and i dont know how to explain it to her. it's just too hard to explain. please help me.

acknowledge means a few different things. To acknowledge that there are differences between us, we need to just agree that you and I are different.

A teacher might acknowledge your accomplishment by giving you a good grade, or telling the class you wrote the best paper.

The opposite of acknowledge is to ignore, or to deny something exists.

Like if your boyfriend's mother didn't acknowledge that you were his girlfriend, or that you even had a relationship. You would just want her to acknowledge the fact that you mean something to her son!

With all due respect..................Dictionary's are a good thing to have in life because you never know when your not going to understand what the meaning of a word is and that's why "WEBSTER" put out his first edition dictionary many, many years ago and it's revised yearly.
