How Do You get a singing or acting gig?

I want to become a singer and actress. I've never been in the singing or acting business. Does anyone know how to get a gig easily? Thank you!

You can't just wake up one day and say, "hey, I want to be a singer or actress." You should look around for theatres and get some experience, then you'll be more likely to land a gig. If you go into a professional audition with no experience to put onto your resume, they're going to be rather reluctant to cast you.

Don't ever wait for people to come to you. Opportunites don't just drop in your lap. If you want something to happen in your life then make it happen. Try out for the community theatre, chat with thespians online, take a class at the community college, network, find support groups, find friends who have the same goals and work together while building each other up! Nothing comes easy, that's your parents' job. Your job is to work for what you want. That is the American Dream.

Do you come from a prominent Hollywood or Broadway family? Do you have an extremely pushy stage mother?

Honest, I have seen lots of kids with more talent and drive than anyone famous, and if they persist, mostly they end up waiting tables.

This is meant to discourage you, but yes there have been many exceptions. Knowing Howard Hughes is no longer one of them.

Ask friends and family if they know a lounge or cafe where you can sing in front of an audience.
