Thought that I might just mention that this is an interior problem and that they are crawling up the walls as well as floors so powders as suggested may not work

There are two answers to this question. One is if you have fireants and you can located their hill, pour Cream of Wheat (uncooked of course) into the hill, this will cause them to explode. Two is to keep them out of the house you should pour salt in doorways and the ants will not cross. This was all from my wife so I hope this helps you out!

My friend's home was flooded once and there were ants living up inside of his wall because of the mud in it, and no matter what he tried, nothing was helping, until he got smart and put a cup full of sugar out beside a tree that was not to far away, and the ants went right over to it, and he never had any ants again. Try leaving a small trail of sugar or crumbs way from the house, and see what happens.

hollie a said it. there is a product already mixed for you. You can get it at Wal-Mart. "Terro" ant killer. Put the thick liquid on a piece of the box and put it along the path they travel. They will run to the stuff. They eat it, go away and die. You may need to add more every day for awhile. IT WORKS! It also works on gnats.

Try fine ground corn meal. Ants will take back to the nest. It will wipe out the colony. Ants can't digest cornmeal.
