It depends on the person and the setting, and how mature you are. I'm thirteen and have yet to slow dance with a guy, but I think the age you start wondering if it would be acceptable for you to slow dance in public is the age it's okay. Like last year I could care less about slow dancing, but this year I'm hoping a guy will ask me to at a school dance. I'd say thirteen is a good, reasonable age. If you're wondering what a good age is and you're under 12, I'd say you're definately too young.

If you watch ballroom dancing on TV, you'll see kids around afe 12 who've been dancing for years, and the social slow dance, when done properly, is a social form of foxtrot. There's really no minimum age for that. On the other hand, most slow dancing you're likely to see in real life is by people with no training at all and no interest in dancing. What they do is more properly not called "slow dancing" but rather "hugging on the dance floor." That's not to say I don't enjoy that, too, but it brings up the point of the age for dating, which is individual, and your parents (I know you want to hear this!) are the best judge of this.

I'd say in eighth grade, maybe 9th...8th grade if it's at the 8th grade dance, however. Otherwise, wait until high school. (this is going on guidelines from my friend, since I still haven't slow danced, and I'm 16.) Just wait until you're comfortable, and feel that the moment's right. Like everything else in life (or almost everything) it'll happen when it's ready to happen.

when you first have the opportunity, it's just a dance. I first danced at one wedding when I was 11 or 12, don't remember exactly

I was 14, and it seemed appropriate, and it was with the right person. I think it mostly depends on the person, not the age. That's like saying what the right age for people to start having sex, it's different for everyone. Some people want to wait, fools rush in, but all in all, it's about having the right person.

Don't wait for the music. If you think the times right, then dance. Who cares if it's not your wedding or the prom!
