I am thirteen years old, and do not like the road our country is heading down. I see violence and murders on the news, and scandals this way and that. I can't stand the thought of how our founding fathers would view the country as it is today. What would they say about our views? Our relationship with other countries today? The wars we are in? Our freedom of speech going down the drain? The list goes on and on. I believe it is sad that I as a young teenage girl already am sadden by the state of our country.

I want to be able to make changes in our society. I know half the answers, if I get any, will be the small things are what counts, but I don't want that. I want to help in big ways, I can get things done. I am an good planner, and have the right mind-set. Anyone have any ideas for me to start today with changing our tomarrow?

We've been heading in a bad direction for close to 40 years now and we all want to do our best to get it back to the traditional way it was, but there are strong forces that want to change this country to a socialist society and at the same time to blame all the ails in the world on this country.

It's really not as bad as the media wants you to think it is. They play a large part in creating hysteria, but if you check the facts you'll see that we have the best economy, best health and best opportunities of any humans in our history. We are living longer healthier lives and what was considered poor are now making more than the middle class did a generation ago. Admittedly, crime is bad in many large cities, but if you look for it there are many examples of good people doing good things for many. Look how much private donations were sent to help the Katrina victims. I was 6 times what the government gave.

Don't listen to all the pessimistic media hype. The media lives off of bad news and enjoy piping it to every source just to upset caring children like you.

Just concentrate on yourself. Learn as much as you can and do the best in what you enjoy. You'll be happy and so will all those you come in contact with. Try your best to do what is right always be generous and helpful to others. And don't fall for peer pressure that may get you into trouble. Look for the good in life and in the people you meet.

You can make a difference just by not being a part of the problem. A positive attitude is always good.

Education, like the previous person said is key.

That is the only way you will be able to make a lasting impact and make positive changes to our country. Although your approach to this issue is sincere, I think that you are very pessimistic about the current state of our country. Compared to the rest of the world, the United States is a very successful country.

All of the tragedies that you have stated occur all over the world, as they are not unique to the United States. Freedom of Speech in Europe is actually is very restricted (If you deny the holocaust in Germany and France you go to jail). Almost weekly cars are lit on fire in France because of discrimination and a lack of employment (it hovers around 10% for Europe).

And lastly, our founding fathers would be outraged, not because of our attitude but the way our government functions. They never intended for it to be run so liberally, as they believed that only the best and brightest should run the country and that the "people" were not intelligent enough to understand the complexities of policy. That’s something your textbook won't tell you.

At the end of the day you must just educate yourself and research the issues which you hope to ameliorate. Know that our country is not in such a state of disaster as you think and almost every other nation is worst off. Always learn both sides of the issue. Cooperation, love, freedom and liberties all sound very nice but they come at a cost.

well i can assure you there was murders and all of that stuff back when this country was founded. Our forefathers would have done the same thing with the terrorist that we are. Don't be discouraged by what you see in the news. Its all a bunch of crap, the just butter up the story or tell the bad news and forget about all of the rebuilding and all of the help we are giving the citizens of iraq. Keep your head up and do good in school until you have the decision to go into the military or college. Then you have the option to serve our country in the military or go to college and get a degree and serve in politics, either way our country is doing fine and its nice to know that youngsters like you are concerned.

I am a couple of years older than you, and I think the same

Solutions:
1. Step down US support of Israel. We suppor them all the time and we have never shown any support for anything the Arabs had on their mind. We give them bombs that Israel uses to blow up Palestinian neighborhoods after terrorist attacks on Israel.
2. Make a withdrawal plan for Iraqi forces in iraq to take over in the summer of 2007.
3. Concentrate more troops in Afghanistan, where the Taliban is going to make a comeback, accoriding to experts, ths summer.
4. Censor TV and music more. We have music that inspires many young people to commit violence because the music made them think it was cool. Many kids who listen to death metal turn into punks and turn depressed, and may be prone to violence.
5. Make in mandatory to take classes about other cultures. Many foreigners have critiscized our lack of knowledge of other cultures, which makes us more prone to rascist hate crimes.
6. Stop globalization. We need to stop building McDonald's next to a temple in Egypt, and a Walmart next to a hsitorical site.

Continue to educate yourself, and vote when you are old enough. Do not follow the media or the left/right debates, always research the truth for yourself.

Education! Education! Education! I can't say that enough...

There's not much you can do. Educate yourself and take your side in issues, even if its not what everyone else is doing. I mean, you're young and theres not much one person, no matter how old, can do about violence overloads and the dirty porn-addicted sex minds of a lot of Americans.
