How many days do you consecutively need to be living at the same address for it to be legally your "home address" I ask because I live with my partner but I work away quite a bit and she claims a discount on council tax as a singal occupant. Just want to make sure she's legally entitled to do that. I do have another address. Are their any website with further info?

In the UK as far as I am aware that for example under the DSS rules. A person doesnt have to live with a person any number of days but if the other person eats, sleeps, has their clothes in your home, does anything that constitutes living with you it can be a problem.

You could see a partner 7 days a week and have he/she visit you every day of the week but its only when they eat with you regular, sleep with you, help you do your shopping like a partner would etc then there could be a problem.

In the UK there is a fine line in this situation. I have known someone done for benefit fraud even though she didnt have her new partner stay with her 24 hours but he did help with shopping, ate at her house and even left clothes at her house and the DSS turned up when he happened to be there eating.

I am a UK resident on the .com yahoo answers site.

In the tax instructions it spells out what is required for each filing status. If you don't have the booklet, or a disk program you can go to www.irs.gov and go to the tax instructions page.
