Actually this question has been posted before but I would like to go a little more in-deph..

There are 5 other questions on the same topic. The overall opinion I see in the answers is "Yes". I would like for you guys to again give your answer and back it up with your opinion as to why. For those who think "Yes", I would like to know which athletes (by name) you feel are the ones overpaid.

My position is these professional leagues make MILLIONS and BILLIONS of dollars through TV contracts, merchandizing, ticket sales, etc. This money is directly correlated to the performance of the athletes. On any given Sunday, 50,000+ skip church to attend a NFL game live. I would like to know WHO deserves the money if the athletes don't?

Based on free market economics they are paid exactly what they are worth, in the sense that fans willingly pay for tickets and networks pay for broadcast rights in sufficient amounts to pay the athlete's salaries. In sports that impose an artificially (low) salary caps you could argue that the athletes are UNDERPAID.

Large numbers of people will say athletes are overpaid out of pure jealousy, or the mistaken notion that pay should reflect the amount of physical or mental work that goes into the job. If that were true ditch-diggers would be millionaires.

Extremely overpaid and most are very unappreciative. Could you imagine playing games that you loved as a child for a profession? And getting paid way too much for it? It's way out of hand now....and sad.

I'm not really familiar with certain athletes, so I can't list any, but I really think that they are overpaid. We had a discussion similar to this one in school one day. My teacher made some really good points about this. She said, "Why are football, basketball, etc. players earning more money that us teachers who work way more hard than they do?" I agree with her about that. All the athlets do is have fun for a living and get paid for their ability. Most are even paid higher than the president of the U.S.! That's because Americans today are much more interested in entertainment. Firefighters, teachers, and police officers are citizens that care about their jobs and deserve that money that is wasted on stupid frivolities. If I was in charge, boy, would that money be zapped out of their pockets and into the people's that matter!!!!!

I think those guys who can get paid any living wage to play the sport they love full time are very lucky.

Lucky or not, they took the ability that God gave them and developed it over the years to be in the big league. They made the cut and deserve every penny they can get on the free market. Still, they are only a part of the organization along with coaches, managers, marketers and the guys who sell beer and hot dogs and the ones who clean up the stadium.

I think they get paid about the right amount.

by that logic a-rod is the highest paid and should be the best all around player.he should lead every stat catagory.he is not worth his money.his contract should be incentive laden.everyones should.most contracts seem to be based on what they did in the previous years.well thats what they got paid to do.they have potential to do better.and owners shouldnt be allowed to squeeze every nickel out of the consumer.its price guaging if ive ever seen it.
