Because our brains simply work that way. I think it stems from our survival instinct. We have this desire to live at least long enough to procreate. Now that survival is no longer such a critical problem, our brains branch out to other areas.

We finally try to find some logical reason for our existence and if we figured there were no reason at all for our existence, we would be less likely to survive. Just my idea.

I think we do it to justify what we do. Some people seek knowledge about their existence through their preferred religion. Other people prefer scientific information to solve their dilemma. I look at it in a different light. I look at my existence as meaningless on a grand scale and significant on a human to human basis. After all humans have multiplied quite well on earth. We are definitely the overruling species on earth. So as humans we are inclined to evolve, I would be willing to bet that if we make it another 200 years that people will be different. If we are evolving we are significant.

Depends on what you mean by "significance." If it's like what is the meaning, message, role of our lives, I don't go there. Perhaps I'd say--how do we VALUE our lives. Also, everything we do (or don't do) has a lasting impact. A sort of "chain reaction." People who have known us, transacted with us, will retain~& pass along parts of us forever. Even if they're not consciously aware they're doing so. We "echo" infinitely. That's enough for me to be in harmony without "seeking" anything else.

As humans, we simply need validation. If we feel that our existance is significant in some way, it makes us feel more alive and feel we have a purpose for being alive.

we have placed such weight of gravity upon our existence that we tend to place even the slightest good reason for our life as a way to keep us moving forward with each day until we to reach our end in the gloomy dim lit day to move beyond that which we think to fear into that which brings great joy.
