Some plants to look into:
Sage, Cedar, and Sweetgrass (used for smudging/prayer)
Tule and other Long Grasses (used for basket making)
Roots (used as medicines and as food)
Herbs (used as medicines and as food)
Tobacco and Peyote (used as medicine and as prayer tool)

the indians in south and central america have always liked to chew on coca plants and other pre-cursers to narcotics to get a buzz. Basically, they are drug addicts like everyone else.
