What does the mucus plug look like? Can you just lose it but have no other bleeding? Also how long after you lost yours did labor start? I heard it can be weeks.

I've heard so many variations on what this illusive (in my case) mucous plug looks like.... from pinkish discharge to mucous when you blow your nose to a quarter sized firm blob. I'm 40 weeks today and haven't seen anything yet.... my doc tells me some women don't ever notice losing their mucous plugs or don't lose them at all until well in to labour/delivery... and other women notice it coming out and like you said don't go in to labour for weeks.

It looks like rubber bands in the toilet. (sorry to be so graphic) It can be bloody or yellowish/greenish. You can lose it and have no other bleeding, although in my case I had other bleeding because the ob ruptured my cervix during an exam. I lost mine a week before I went into labor, but for some women it can take weeks.

I never lost mine. I had a cesarean, but my friend lost her plug then had her baby almost a month later!
