The phone quits ringing right when you pick it up, and no one's there. But no dial tone....I know someones there.....

There are so many sales calls made by computers today, I really think that is why we can't hear anyone on the other end of the line. I get them all the time and there are even times when I answer only to hear "please hold, I will be with you in just a moment". Needless to say I just hang up. With caller ID I don't answer a call that is a "private number", "unknown name and number" or from people whose names I don't recognize. Call screening is the only way to go.

Have you recently broken up with a girlfriend/boyfriend? Has someone got a crush on one of your kids? It's someone that's just trying to hear someone's voice without letting them know they're there. Do you have caller ID? Depending on where you are in the world there's a number you can call that will tell you the last number that dialled you. I'd be asking your carrier...

Occasionally -I just hang up the phone and go online. I have dial up and no calls can come through when I am on line.

yeah and it's usually telemarketers. Makes me angry. I tell them off and hang up.
I'm a rude person, what can I say! Just don't call my cell phone, waste my minute and try to sell me some junk I'll never use or want.
errrr.
But sometimes it's my boyfriend calling- but I know because of caller id, just the reception around here totally sucks!

yes. the damn phone sits there ringing and making loud horrible noises and i keep yelling someone pick up the phone or melt it or blow it up but noone ever does and i dont want to talk to the person on the other end anyway and when i finally pick it up it was on its last ring and then i sit there like hello yes what why did you make my phone start ringing like a stupid peice of loud crap and THEY ARENT THERE?!?!

Telemarketer. They call several numbers at once and if someone picks up they go to that call, but the others are left hanging for a second. Nice pic. Johnny rocks! I have that picture behind my bar.

Usaually a telemarketing company that has a machine do it's dialing, thats why there is a pause before someone actually starts talking. I hate them!!!!
