I recently had a baby and am thinking of going on the mirena IUD. I was on the pill before I got pregnant and the hormones really messed up my cycle, making it harder for me to concieve the first time. My main concern is that I do eventually want another baby, probably in about 2-3 years. Has anyone used this and had difficulty with their fertility afterward? Chances are I won't be leaving it in for the full 5 years.

Mirena can be removed before 5 years are up if you are thinking about concieving. However, it is possible (just like the pill) that your cycles could be irregular when you first get the IUD inserted and after removing it. There are no guarantees about your cycles. The nice thing is you don't have to worry about taking a pill everyday. Nuva ring is also a nice option. Once a month inserted vaginally and removed during period week. Any concerns i would discuss with your ob/gyn. Hope this helps.

Mirena is the only IUD with hormone It works physically as an IUD and also releases the same birth control hormone that is in a pill.If you had problems with pills you are gonna have it with mirena too.There are other IUDs as well that do not have the hormone you can go for those ones if you do want other child in 2-3 years it would be a better idea to stay away from hormones for now and just use physical contraception.

Hi, i used the mirena after my first child for over 2 years and have just had another child.
Maybe i was just lucky though, when i had it fitted my GP warned me that this form of contraception is the closest thing to being sterilised and she also warned me of the risks involved, including possible sterility. GP said that if i knew i'd want more children in the future it would be best to choose another form of contraception.
I know another of the listed side effects are Polycystic Ovaries which can lead to infertility.
The choice is yours, maybe there are other forms of contraception you may consider.

I have had wonderful sucess with the mireana, I can't tell you how the fertility would be after but they say you can get pregnant the next day. I am so happy with it. It really hasn't messed with my hormone levels to much. I have had a couple of mild headaches but nothing severe, and thankfully no montly pms, and I haven't gained anything in fact I have lost weight. And as far as the procedure of getting it in was fairly simple. As far as I know this a wonderful contraception device. Love it and would recommend it to anyone.
