Whether starting materials or products, the most common methods of determining purity of organic compounds include a melting or boil point measurement and some form of instrumental analysis (but especially IR spectroscopy).

If this is for a Chemistry lab report, you need to give as much evidence as you can as to why you believe you made the proper chemical. This would include clearness and B.P. if liquid, shape of crystal and M.P. if solid, as well a possible color and smell if appropriate.

For some labs, tests performed on the compounds might also need to be reported.
