They were round, egg-shaped really, cuddly toy things, often in bright colours, a bit like Humpty Dumpty

Gonk is the term used to describe a group of Ganks, i.e. "we saw a whole Gonk of Ganks" or "we just got Ganked by a Gonk"

Gonks, of course, would be several groups of Ganks.

Some people incorrectly refer to that group as Gonksters, but Ganksters would be more correct.

I used to have a Gonk when a youngster, he was a large toy made of felt and he was in the likeness of Humpty Dumpty. But when I was given him he was in a beautiful box which had on the outside in big letters Gonk. Maybe in different countries they are not the same as mine was when I was in Australia.

Gonks aren't supposed to be of any species. Back in World War I, the production of teddy bears was halted to help with the war effort. Because they didn't have a lot of material or time, they toned down the teddy bear, removing arms and legs and such, and created the "gonk" to lift kids' spirits.

A Gonk is a small furry soft toy which was extremely popular in the 1980s as a gift, but which was in existence at least two decades earlier. They are usually plush toys, animal in nature but of no discernible species. They have no legs or arms (although small flaps of material sometimes serve this purpose) and large eyes.
