I think you should stick with it. Talk to your teacher outside of class and tell him/her how you feel. Asking for help can seem awkward but it's better than not ever knowing if you would like it or not. If you go with the safe art class, you may never know what shop is like. Sometimes I have the best experience when I take a risk. Get all the different experiences you can in school. By the way, asking other students for a little help might make them feel a little important and good. You might make a friend. Hope this helps... Have fun!!

Speaking as an art major, what you're learning in shop class is information and techniques that will be helpful later on, if you decide to pursue a career in the arts. Much of the machinery you find in the shop is also found in many sculpture studios. In addition, even if you prefer more two dimensional arts like painting, a knowledge of woodworking tools is helpful for putting together stretchers, strainers or panels.
I would get someone to show you how to work the machines (take notes if you need to) and give it another try before you give up. It sounds more like you just don't know how to do anything, rather than you're not good at it.

Talk to your shop teacher and let them know that you aren't enjoying it, they may be able to give you some extra help during and after class. It may also affect their decidsion when it comes to grades. They may suggest that you switch out. Then talk with your counselor they am also suggest that you switch. But then at least you can make a clear decdison and know that you covered all the bases before switching.

I'd say stick with it. If you feel like you don't know the basics, like how to work the machines and stuff, talk to your teacher, see if he will go over it with you after class so you feel more comfortable with it. You might also see if you can get a friend to join the class, someone you can work with on projects.
Giving up is rarely the right choice; try all your other options first.

You should switch out if your not having fun and go to art because you will enjoy it!
