So many to choose from.

My personal favorite is the Minibosses' compilation 'Kraid-Metroid.'

2nd, the orchestral version of 'Vamo Alla Flamenco' from FF IX.

3rd, the Russian Folk songs that the three original Tetris songs are based off, (my favorite being 'Tetris A').

There are three for you.

I played some of the new and alot of the oldschool games, I personally think the song in the arcade game Shinobi was incredible, Bonk had a really good song going too, but I think that P.O.W. (Nintendo) and Platton (Metal Gear for regular Nintendo had good sound effects sometimes) had the best song(s) for wargames, you can almost imagine you are right there in the jungle and it made you blast harder. Ohhhh! Don't forget the song for the last level of Bionic Commando, but after a while it gets on your nerves. The ending of Final Fight for Super Nintendo had the best romance song, sometimes can bring you to tears though :( (i'm kidding...maybe).

I personally like the theme from "Friday the 13th" video game from the original Nintendo Entertainment System, as well as the ending song of "The Magic of Scheherazade" game (same console), it's so melancholic. And of course, some of the songs of Super Mario Bros. 3 are awesome (you know which ones if you ever played the game).

I'm showing my age here.. I remember the themes from the original Nintendo way back in the day. My favorites were:

The background music from the Nintendo game Ninja Gaiden, whenever they would cut to the scenes..sort of dramatic/plus a nice side story line.

The music from Top Gun Nintendo game.. it was very cool... I think it was the theme from the actual movie.

Um.. probably isn't the best, but I liked the Dr. Mario theme music.. it was good in a "can't get that song outta my head" kinda way.

Catchy or epic? 3 epic ones were the openings from Chrono Trigger, Secret of Mana of FF3. Castlevania Symphony of the night had some good music too I think.. Then there's the obvious zelda and mario for catchiness. rad racer music! can't think of any more at the moment..
