This is like comparing Apples (pun intended) and Peaches (which have stones or, at least, pits).

The Beatles, with the possible exception of Ringo, were genius composers. All were fine, perhaps even great, performers. But they were more than somewhat tainted by people horning in on their success.

The Rolling Stones, I think, have continued over the years to produce music which is catchy, memorable, and, in some cases, even great. Superb performers, fine to outstanding musicianship.

Sorry, I can't really decide between them.

Let's just enjoy BOTH bands!

Although I do think that Gimme Shelter is one of the premier pieces in rock history...The Beatles' grasp of timing, tempo and instrumentation, and the sheer diversity of their musical abilities make them the proven masters. The Stones could NEVER span the whispering melody of songs like "Long, long, long" to the searing guitarwork on Helter Skelter.

Beatles were definitely more talented. They knew their stuff when it came to weird chord progressions. I would have to guess that at least one of those guys was well educated in music theory.
