I used to have a gold fish and then I got some mollies so I've been feeding them my goldfish food but chopped it up a little, is this alright?

It's okay for a short period of time, but fish food is developed specifically for each type of fish depending on their needs. You need to get your mollies their own food that is more suited to their nutritional requirements. Mollies are omnivorous and require both meaty foods as well as algae. They need an algae-based flake food, as well as freeze-dried bloodworms, tubifex, and brine shrimp. Mollies also prefer a heavily planted, algae-laden tank.

Just like you shouldn't really feed a dog cat food, you really shouldn't give your mollies goldfish food. They have different nutritional requirements. Goldfish are a cold water type where as mollies are a warm water type.

Fish food is really not that expensive (around $3), so you should really go down to your local petstore and get them the right type of diet, which would be tropical fish flakes.
