As was mentioned, depends on the region - in Georgia, a funeral was not exactly a celebration - you all met at 6the church, had a service, then proceeded to the graveside where another service was read, then sometimes to the families home for socialization, where finger foods and cake was served and everyone talks about the deceased.

Depends on the region. Most people didn't celebrate a funeral. The blacks believe in celebrating the person who passed life and the fact that they are in a better place.
