The more you read to the baby and the more they hear you the better. My mom is a reading specialist and even though I got sick of her telling me to read read read to the baby (even when I was pregnant) I know she is right and there are lots of studies out there that prove so.

My babies are 7 months and I "read" them cloth books, the kind with touch and feel pages. Robert Priddy (Priddy Books) has a good series out and Lamaze also makes some very good ones. My babies love them! It's hard to read "real" books because my babies grab them, and they don't really understand the story, so the cloth ones with the very simple text works out really well.

About the time your baby is born. It's never too early. A baby need to hear it's mother's voice and there's no better way than reading to him/her.

newborn read the same books have maybe 3 books and read them to him everyday. One before each nap etc

my sister read a book called chicka chicka boom boom (an ABC Book) and sang the abcs to her baby and now he is 19 months old and know most of his abcs my point the more repitetion and at a younger age the more chance he is going to be able to read and know things at a younger age.

hope it helps

Right away! My sister started reading to her son from the time he was a newborn, and now he is 2 and LOVES to read! He has always been so interested in books and will sit in his room and read.

It's never too early. You could even start in the womb. They don't understand a word you're saying, but they will grow accustomed to your voice and bond with you. So, pick your poison, nursery rhymes, Wall Street Journal, or Danielle Steele. No matter. Just let the little one hear your voice! :)

Right away. Many people read to the baby when they are still inside.

I read to my daughter when we first came home from the hospital, we read at the last feeding before she went to bed for the night, I breastfed. This sets up a routine, that not only gets child reading, but to bed easier.

I read to my now 10 month old son when he was just a few weeks old, because I can't sing LOL and I wanted him to hear my voice. Now he'd rather chew on the pages.
