I think the problem actually lies with English clubs wanting too much money for average players.

I know Michael Carrick is an international player but he is not an international regular and so £18.6 million is far to much. Why should a club pay that much for a midfielder when Cesc Fabregas cost nothing (though he was not ready straight away for the first team)

I don't blame managers for buying players from abroad, after all results are what they require to stay in a job and I guess saving money is part of their job too.

Maybe the answer lies with limiting the number of foreign players in your squad (say 10 of a squad of 16 should be from England/Britain) and FIFA putting a limit on how much can be spent on a player.

To be honest, I think that wether the manager is foreign or not he will still buy from abroad .
You just have to look at the quality and skill of a few of the foreign player's to see why... Also the uk is a very small fish in quite a big pond, If you get me. It's the same reason america always seem to win the Olympics, they have more choise than everybody else.
I don't know for sure but I reckon that for every 2 good english player's, there are 5 or 6 good foreign player's.........Just a guess!

Absolutely, but its not just foreign managers that do it. I remember a long time ago when clubs were only allowed a certain number of foreign players on their books, this was the best idea. I feel so sorry for our lads, there is so little chance for them to progress. Ok, the odd boy genius emerges now and again, but there just isnt enough to sustain a decent England team. Give our boys some hope.

Firstly, to buy a foreign player it doesn't matter where you are from. Club owner and Managers have realised that this is a business and if you want to make money you have to win thophies and not any player can give you that which is why you have to go for those who can deliver a positive results.

In Chelsea eg; Lampard plays because there is no other player in the team that plays better than him at his position and it's the same with Terry for this reason I don't see why Drogba or Ronaldo have to seat to allow a citizen play.

I believe this will make players like Wright-Phillip work harder and deserve the first team.

Managers do whatever they do because they are told to win things or else you're fired... which is why you have to go for a player who can win them.

thanx!

People who still think like this are dinosaurs like the Steve McClarens of English football.

Foreign managers are hired to win competitions, the more the better for the club which is run like a commercial entity these days and rightly so.

They'd be too happy to fork out the millions for a Rooney, or a Terry but since local wonderboys are in scarce supply, they have little option.

It is up to the England FA to find a solution to produce and not go on endlessly moaning about the future of English football. 40 years on and still trying to find excuses for the failure of English football. Why? Because you are still thinking like an Englishman - that's an incurable disease.

I think that the only people who think that England's future is being ruined by foreigners are ethnocentric Englishman who can't stand to see countries who are better than England in football. The Prem is the greatest league in the world because of the diversity and all of the stars. It makes it the most challenging league to be in. To say that buying foreigners ruins the Prem is like saying that David Beckham is going to save the MLS. It's stupid!!

I think SKY has screwed things up big time. Someone said the other day that football shouldn't be shown in the pubs, which might mean that fans might return to grounds to watch games but SKY has just increased the revenue for next season. The grounds could be quater full but the clubs will still get their money, with the bottom club getting £35 million. Anyone from abroad who has money can come in and take anything they want. Football is FINISHED!

I think it's absolutely absurd that people like Steve Mcclaren blame the failure of the English national team on people like Arsene Wenger. If Mcclaren is a bad manager, he should blame himself and not successful managers like Wenger because the Arsenal team is not the core of England's success, TRUST ME. There is no shortage of good English players in the EPL like Gerrard, Crouch, Rooney, Lampard and plenty more. Instead of praising Wenger for getting such talented young players for next to nothing and nurturing them into stars, he blames him for his own shortcomings.. pathetic.

too late my friend it has already happened, i remember when arsenal had about eight international english players in their sqaud now we aint got 1, the english players are not getting the chance to play for big clubs anymore so they have to settle for the crap clubs like tottenham and watford, and now at this rate england will never win the world cup ever again especially with steve mclaren as the head coach.
