Comic books are what I grew up with (though that may be debatable—that I ‘grew up’….) Having said that, I find most anime to be a little too removed from my culture to be able to follow easily. If it is too much work, just to be able to understand, it is less entertaining. I realize that there are plenty of younger kids who can follow it easily and love it. I am not saying anything against anime; it is just not my cup of tea. I am more into the traditional costumed heroes with secret identities.

Also, to name just one, knowing as much as I do about alchemy, I find FMA unrealistic. I feel sorry for the characters and I am not interested in following what seems must eventually prove to be a fool’s quest.

Because so many people are strongly polarized on this—it seems most of the people I talk to prefer one and don’t care about the other-- I almost wonder whether it might not be better to have a separate comic books category, an animation category, and an anime category.

Anime has characters that all beleive their way of thinking is right. They don't go around saying "i'm evil" and stuff, because that is rediculously obvious and stupid. However, I do like comic book heroes (come on, they are classic!).

Anime:
+ it has more realistic villains
- the battles are WAY too slow to be beleivable, there's just too much thinking and sometimes even long flashbacks

Comic Books:
+ classic heroes, like superman and batman
+ has fast-paced fights
-the villains are rediculous and always claiming that they are evil, or they are crazy etc.

I'm not too sure...

i like manga because characters are more complex, almost all the mangaka focus more on the substance and the depth of story because manga usually gets away with having more to it because it has a MUCH lower production value, so you tell your story across panels, and can cover more ground quicker this way, as well. its like fan came up with the story line...and that is not the case with comic books which lack substance why? because they are product of corporate America lol just kidding might be true but that was beside the point . anyways one of the reason why i have been reading manga for so many years is because the storyline of each manga is so unpredictable, and the fact that some of the character's predicament and the overall philosophical message of the story makes you think is amazing, cause i love to read something that makes me think and analyze it. manga are big and you get to read more.. more the better. comic books are mostly superhero based and that can be very boring after a while, but in manga characters are mostly ordinary people just like you and me going through trails and tribulations, and sometimes you see that character in situation that you have been in yourself and you will be like "been there done that" bottom line is to me, comics over here almost seem like all the same thing...some could say the same for manga - but hey, it's very different than what I'd expect of comics, and it just clicked with me.
