The union blocked the entire confederacry to include Texas ports, the reason was to isolate the confederacry from the rest of the world. The confederacy got their money, weapons and ammunition from trading goods with Europe, Mostly Britian and France. Interdicting this trade limited and hindered the souths ability to proecute the war.

Texas had it easier than most states because teaxe had an abundance of food and horses. The only difficulties was in obtaining foreign made goods, which was not to hard on Texas it being a fonteir state and having a border with Mexico trade still flowed through Texas. Texas suffered the least of the entire south.

It was part of the overall blockade of all Southern ports. The Union was trying to stifle trade between the South and Europe, which was mostly in cotton. Actually Texas was a major supply state for the Confederacy, supplying men and cattle until the Union gained control of the Mississippi River.

With the vast majority of its adult population enlisted in the army, either in active or home service, the State of Texas was more or less a military camp during the Civil War.

what motivated the blockades of Texas? They were at war - the best way to reduce the number of enemy troops you need to kill is to ensure that the enemy has no resources to put an army on the field...
How did the Texan's adapt? they were rather a large state - and in many respects a nation still. So they would have had little trouble adapting however it would've still ahd an effect on economic stability and living comforts.....
