I was at Best Buy talking to an associate about a laptop, a guy bellows "EXCUSE me" and his wife kind of gives off a sarcastic murmur as I let the guy waddle by.

Then at the phone place this older woman gives me a look when I said hi to her while the associate asked her to wait until he was done with me.

Why are senior citizens rude?

Superior attitude and feeling of entitlement. So what if you've made it to 80....be nice!

Well, you're using a pretty WIDE "brush"... you can't really speak about "ALL" senior citizens, because you haven't met each and every one walking (or waddling?) ;) the face of the earth. Just a bit of logic I thought I'd point out.

Now as to your question... I suspect that you are just running into people who are simply having a bad day, for whatever reason. I have also met seniors who left me going "holy geez!"... but I've also met, worked with, and had clients who'd fall into that group - and those folks have been absolute SWEETHEARTS who've made my day.

It's just human nature.

that's sort of a generalization, that all senior citizens are rude.

well, they were brought up in a different time period as us and things were most definitely different. maybe their grandparents had more authority over the younger generations and now they think they had that same authority. also, they have health problems and are grumpy because they are in physical pain or tired of living and you know, that stuff.

or maybe their personailties since childhood include bullying people.

you really can't say they're all rude, (some are really nice) but the ones you met certainly were and this is all i can say about it.

Because their time is almost up and they can't afford to wait! Now, how come most other young people are so rude? (also the senior citizen is more than likely in some sort of pain..usually moderate to severe, with little relief in sight, other than to get back home as fast as they can) Put yourself in their shoes, how do you think you are going to feel when you reach their age? Be kinder now to your fellow man than is expected and know that you are the better person for it!
When an old man died in the geriatic ward of a small hospital ,it was believed he had nothing left of any value. Later when the nurses were going through his meager posessions, they found this poem. Its quality and content so impressed the staff that copies were made and passed around. The old man's sole bequest to posterity has since appeared all over many states ,in many publications. And this little old man ,with nothing left to give the world, is now the author of this 'anonymous 'poem winging across the internet..

CRABBY OLD MAN

What do you see nurses? what do you see?
What are you thinking...when you're looking at me?
A crabby old man,..not very wise,
Uncertain of habit...with faraway eyes?

Who dribbles his food...and makes no reply.
When you say in a loud voice.."I do wish you'd try!"
Who seems not to notice...the things that you do.
And forever is losing...a sock or a shoe?
Who, resisting or not...lets you do as you will,
With bathing and feeding..the long day to fill?
Is that what you're thinking? Is that what you see?
Then open your eyes, nurse..you're looking at me.
I'll tell you who I am..as I sit here so still,
As I do at your bidding, as I eat at your will.
I'm a small child of ten...with a father and mother,
Brothers and sisters...who love one another
A young boy of sixteen...with wings on his feet
Dreaming that soon now...a lover he'll meet.
A groom soon at twenrty...my heart gives a leap.
Remembering, the vows...that I promised to keep.
At tweny five, now...I have young of my own.
Who need me to guide... ...and a secure happy home.
A man of thirty...my young now grown fast,
Bound to each other...with ties that should last.
At forty, my young sons..have grown and are gone,
But my woman's beside me...to see I don't mourn.
At fifty, once more...babies play 'round my knee,
Again, we know children...my loved one and me
Dark days are upon me...and nature is cruel
Tis jest to make old age...look like a fool
The body, it crumbles...grace and vigor ,depart,
There is now a stone...where once I had a heart
But inside this old carcass...a young guy still dwells,
and now and again...my battered heart swells,
I remember the joys...I remember the pain
And I'm loving and living...life over again
I think of the years..all too few..gone too fast
and accept the stark fact. .that nothing can last
So open your eyes, people...open and see
Not a crabby old man. Look closer..see ..ME!!

Remember this poem when you next meet an older person who you might
brush aside without looking at the young soul within...we will all. one day, be there too!

here's some food for thought: Maybe they are rude because they figure, what the hell, they hurt all the time, they don't have much time left for "dilly-dallying", at this stage in their lives, they really don't give a flying f--- what anybody thinks of 'em, they've paid their dues, they want what they deserve , umm--wait let me think I'm sure I can come up with some more of their excuses for just plain rude and anti-social behavior--oh, I know, it's the medication they're on, or they forgot to take their psych meds, or....sigh, I'm tired, time for a nappy-poo...hee-hee-hee

My grandparents are like that. I think they feel that because they're old, they can say what they like, and that no-one is going to tell them any different, because they're supposed to be frail and old and you cant shout or be rude to them etc.

1) Because they claim that everyone that is younger is rude and desirves it

2) Alziemers

3) They want to feel bigger than you are

4) Coz they can get away with it

You shouldn't let them get away with it.. Show you believe in no rudeness being telling them off for being so rude.
