A cottonwood borer. Here's a picture of one:

I knew a guy who used to tie one to his cap with a long thread just for grins. (Yes, he'd let it go.)

a couple of years ago we had a Song Thrush nest in the tree in our back garden..... not the best place to build a nest as the tree was only small, and the nest was only about 5 feet off the ground ! it was really interesting though to be able to see inside the nest (whist the mother bird wasn't there), and my son, who was only 2 at the time, was totally fascinated by it ! the only downside to all of this was that the mother bird had built the nest out of whatever she could find, so along with straw and twigs, she'd also found some cassette tape. she raised 4 chicks, but one of them got caught up in all the tape in the nest, and it cut off the circulation to it's legs. sadly, that baby bird died as it wasn't able to leave the nest.... it goes to show just why people ought to be more careful about what they do with their rubbish !

A grass snake, not the most unique of creatures but the most interesting one I've found in the garden.

Well, and this will shock you mrsb, but I found the land of jellykins. I found the door by accident one day whilst strimming my hedge. The door opened and the men from jelly-land beckoned me in and fed me up with lots of custard based foods.

Only kidding, I suppose the only really interesting thing that is in my garden is ME so ner!

My dad found a toad carrying its baby on its back in our garden once, then again there was that orange caterpillar with a blue face too. Hard to chose which was more interesting.

A stick insect on the raspberry bushes years ago. A massive caterpillar (which scared me) about four years ago. That got into the local newspaper.
