Our 12 year old niece wants one for her birthday and has aked my wife and I to get her one. Should we ask her parents first or send her one with the option of returning it if her parent don't like the idea?

Different string bikinis are cut diferently so some may show more that others. As long as it's nothing crazy I have no problem with a 12 year old wearing a bikini. I would definatley ask the parents opinion though as they are the ones that matter. Just sending one will cause a big fight if she knows you sent it then the rents want to return it.

I have a daughter that will be 12 in May and I do not want her wearing a string bikini. I would be offended and upset if my sister were to get her one for her birthday. I think you should just go with a different gift. I won't even let my daughter listen to Fergie, and I try to keep her away from anything that has to do with Eminem. The world has lost all innocence but I am going to try my best to keep my daughter from finding out.

You should ask her parents first-and if they say it is ok-then you should get her one-or tell her that she can get one when she becomes a teen(13)

Get her a gift certificate so if she buys one it is between her and her parents. Or something else altogether. This is something they need to work out together.
12 does seem kinda young though.

i got one when i was 13 but that was with my moms permission, so ask her parents
