I heard about a blonde once, she went to the Dentists'. The dentist was slightly amused at the fact the blonde was wearing headphones.
He started treatment on her and removed her earpiece, as it got in his way. After treating her, the dentist became alarmed as his patient appeared not to be breathing!
He checked for a pulse and the patient had indeed died. He called the Emergency Services and whilst waiting for their arrival, curiously picked up the blondes earpiece....he put it to his ear and heard the words 'Breathe in.......................... Breathe out....Breathe in...Breathe out.
I'd say this dentist was complacent but acceptable.

I agree, what's this guys problem? I think he's obsessed w/his finger and we know why.....
to answer your question, complacency is usually regarded as 'lukewarm' or even, 'lazy, unmotivated or apathetic.' I'm not quite sure when it would be deemed acceptable, unless we find ourselves in a 'no-win' situation. Sometimes it's healthy to be moved out of our comfort zone and into an unfamiliar place where we can re-create....so, I can't really answer your question fairly because 'complacency' has not worked for me. Interesting question though. :)
