If an animal was to be kept in a very large cage , might it not realise it was captive.Similarly are we humans really free or just far away from the bars.

The bars in the human prison are invisible. They are formed from idealogical ideals.

To quote Karl Marx:
Ideological ideas are phantoms formed in the human brain, that keep prisoners in their cells, without a need for bars.

Through articles in newspapers, magazines and the TV, we are being subtly guided and rebuked for all the ways our live don't conform to today's ideals, as layed-out to us by the ruling class.

Animal in large cage? That may not be so easy to answer. If the animal's territory was smaller than the cage, it might never notice. If its territory is larger, it probably would.

As far as humans go, we create our own cages. I think that most people tend to not see the bars. Others slip easily through them. Some like to bang their heads on them. I consider "human bars" to be social constraints and or laws.

Of course there are REAL bars for those who push or break the serious laws - AND get caught.

I don't think we're far away from the bars. Our society is so oppressive that I feel positively claustrophobic. Some animals, like some humans, are just too thick to realise they are in captivity I reckon. I don't reckon goldfish know they're in a nice big tank, but if you put a cat in a ten mile square cage, they little bugger would work out a way to escape.

Total freedom equals chaos! Limits have to exist otherwise no planets, no suns, no gravity!

Life as we know it is limited, caged, on this earth. Because it is round and BIG we do not feel limited, but we really are.

If you as a human were put out in deep space all by yourself without a way home, it would take you about 1-5 min. to totally freak out. We don't want that kind of freedom.

I have dogs. Every time I have an empty cardboard box that I put down, they rush into it. Humans are like that too.

Natural barriers are as good as steel bars. Yet, you appear as free as the wind. It all depends on your perspective. The majority of the human race is confined to one small planet. Yet, we argue the relative degree of freedom in any one culture.

Freedom is relative. Nobody and nothing has total freedom. There many restrictions on an individual, including those the individual places on themselves. Freedom has limits, we are only free within the parameters of those things that restrict us, whatever that be.

As humans, i think we put up our own bars, and then say that we can not break free. There again what do we call freedom, freedom of what? Its different with animals they can not control,or should i say are not in control, therefore for them there is only one choice FREEDOM every time.

Depends.
You mean literal bars made of steel, or the bars placed by society, out upbringing and all that.
Brings up the whole nature nurture debate.

How very philosophical of you, you've made me think.
