The person has passed away over a month now. The executor has gone over the will with the lawyer. When I called for information he just says its a substantial amount but won't give me the exact figure. Shouldn't he tell me how much was left to me? He just says I can have a percentage of it in 3 months but won't tell me how much it is to begin with. Why??

There has already been a reading of the will. No one was invited to the reading of the will. Just the executors went to it. If the will has been read am I not entitled to know what I have been bequithed, even though the amount of money may change after everything is settled?

Usually, the executor has to settle matters with the estate first before they can tell you how much you are getting. Is there property to sell? Stocks and bonds to sell? Debts to pay? Taxes? All that has to be taken care of, first, and then you get your share.

If he tells you something now, and then discovers a big debt the person owned, he'll have to deal with you getting mad at him.

Just chill - the money isn't yours, yet.

It takes time to get all the business completed. It took a few months for any money to come the way of my sisters and I years ago. Bills that were outstanding need to be paid out of the estate, etc. Any further questions, or if you feel "put off" too much from the executor, please contact the attorney, or an attorney on this matter. Before that tho, please ask this person why and what is taking so long, and what all needs to be done first. Take care.

Try contacting him in person , set an appointment with him , most lawyers will not discuss actual facts over the phone , and it depends on the will if the deceased ask that it not be disclosed ,to avoid conflict with other family members , get with him in person to discuss why he isn't telling you , or he could be just dragging it out to increase his percentage by giving it to you in an allowance because he gets anywhere from 5-10 % ask to see a copy of the will and have him go over it with you ... The delay can be due to monies owed from or by the estate it is never over night when dealing with the courts or lawyers

This is the only power the executor will have in his life, just smile and wait till the will is read.
Good luck

Try calling the lawyer. If that doesn't work, go to courthouse and look up copy of the will in records. The records clerk will help you.
