At its very core---"originality"--is a viewpoint
BUT-- there is cause to stand on the old "Nothing New Under the Sun" platform here for the sheer fact that most everything viewed as "original" by people at large -- is simply a "development" of foundations of one type or another that have been around--sometimes for centuries on end !!
Most of what people call "original" is simply a "twist" of some sort on a developed thing already in play -- which makes these "originals" more of an "innovation" than anything Brand New

Afraid not. When I turn on the TV, I only see things I already have seen years ago. Now that I started to read the newspaper more closely, I see the same people getting interviewed all the time. Every event I hear about is just boring me out of my skull. Songs that I hear are songs I heard 15 years ago, only slightly altered. Initiatives and "special days" are such boring things that you want them to go away as fast as they were first started. In fashion, I could see the 60's crawling in more then a year ago. Were going back, but not to the future this time.
It seems that the process should be started right over again. But you would need a drastic thing for that to happen. You better find something you like doing and keep it up, practice it good and honestly and be content with what you do.

Absolutely. There's nothing new under the sun but people are continuously using the same things and ideas to express themselves in fresh, creative ways. This is what I love about the internet. We have access to the ideas and creations of so many people now rather than just the few that get published or make the "big time."
I have a friend whose 360 blog is a sensory delight. He includes lots of pictures and videos and I've been overwhelmed by the creativity in this big world of ours. I've listened to incredible music, watched mind-boggling animations, laughed like a ninny, and cried from the sheer beauty of some creations I've viewed. The human mind is resourceful and inventive. There's plenty of originality out there.

No, humanity has existed for thousands of years, and the chances of having an original thought despite thousands of years of precedents is highly unlikely. At one point or another, another person thought something that resembled your thought in some way. Every storyline contains at least some simularities to another. The only difference is those who capitalize on their thought become original innovators and those who don't act on their thoughts sit around and cry, because they had the idea first (maybe).

Everything new is based loosely or very closely to something that already exists...so in a sense, the answer is no.

One of the most original musicians that I know of, Mike Patton, keeps coming out with new styles and genres of music. But it's still music, something that's been around for thousands of years.

I used to hear questions like this when I taught drum lessons

Who is the most original?

So I told them....the guy that hit the log with a stick was original....everyone else stole from him

I believe that there is, but most of it comes from bits and pieces of ideas that are already around us, which to me is not such a bad thing. I think that most "original" ideas have always been things that were built upon the ideas and concepts of others anyway.

Yes...human beings...each and every one an original creation, unique and never to be identically duplicated. So possibly their actions or personal habits, if you will, (some of which will never be disclosed) could very well be considered original...but who will ever know.

The pursuit of originality is something that often kills progress and innovation.
Have you heard the term "standing on the shoulders of giants"?

We can achieve greater things through inspiration from those before us.
