That sucks, I know the feeling well. When I was at school I had the same problem and still do sometimes. I tried absolutely everything and nothing's ever really solved the problem. I helped it for a while when I had councelling and then got into this strict routine before I went to bed. I think having a routine to let your body know that it's bedtime is helpful, if a bit of a bore!! You'll never really solve it though. You might find it gets better for a while and then worse again, apparently a person always enough sleep in the end because you lose it some nights and get it back during others. Don't worry about it. I know it sounds a bit cold, but the more your worry about it, the worse it'll get. Just try to chill and say, so what? Rock n roll!! ha ha

Ok....ive had the same problem until ive developed a good sleeping pattern. The basic ways are having a warm drink, read a boring book..etc...but i find this works for me:

Relax before you sleep. Dont think about work or stress because it keeps your brain too active when your trying to get into a relaxed sleeping state. Get into bed and really tense up every part of your body individually one at a time for a few seconds each then release. Work your way downwards...and you should find that your whole body becomes a lot more relaxed afterwards...not to mention tired. You'll have a good night's sleep straight after!

Don't take naps and read really boring books. The best sleeps that I ever got was when I studied really hard or did productive activities during the day. If you don't take naps and you sleep around the same time everyday, you should have great sleep in about 2 to 3 days. It takes a while to get adjusted to sleeping at a certain time.

Well I'm not normally one to advocate drugs, but a trip to the doctor may help. He may be able to reccomend some NATURAL herbal sleeping remedies such as KALMS tablets - they work pretty well.
If that doesn't work, it may be that just a weeks course of sleeping tablets gets your body back into sync and makes it realise when you should be sleeping. That worked for me when I had trouble sleeping a few months ago. Two weeks I was on sleeping tablets, after that my body went back to normal and slept when it was suppose to!
As well as just addressing the symptom though, there may be an underlying cause of why you aren't sleeping. You may be suffering from some sort of anziety, stress or any number of physical problems which can cause sleeplessness.
I would reccomend a trip to the doctor, and tell him everythign and anything - he or she will be able to give you some wonderful advice.
Before I stop rambling, a good thing to try is, as corny as it sounds, meditation.
Visual mediatation (lay there, close your eyes and imagine nothing but white.. blankness. Then slowly, design that white space how you would like it, to make your own "safe place.") can be a very helpful tool to induce sleep.

On no account let anyone give you or lend you ANY sleeping pills.

Avoid reading and TV or an hour before bed. Try either a bath with some lavender oil, or put some on your pillow. Physically you are unlikely to come to any harm, 3 or 4 hours is enough for the body to manage on anyway.

Have you tried a lavender room/linen spray? This helps to relax you etc. Available through avon about £2 for a bottle. Really helps to de-stress and relax you. Hope it works for you as it does for me :-)
