Here are the three ?'s- even if you are not able to answer everyone, its better than nothing. thanks

State the Law of Conservation of Mass. Explain why fission reactions do not obey this law.

2. Why is radon testing often required before a home is sold or bought?

3. 3.Why is nuclear fission considered a better source of energy than nuclear fusion? Why is it not a major energy source today?

thank you so much!!!

The Law of Conservation of Mass states that mass can not be created or destroyed in ordinary chemical reactions. It can only change the form that it takes. (In nuclear reactions, mass can be changed into energy: nuclear fission...think Atomic Bomb).

Radon testing is required because radon is a "radioactive" gas that is sometimes produced under ground and can seep into homes from the substrate underneath the home. Radon over exposure causes cancer.

Nuclear fission is the splitting of the atomic nucleus to release energy (changing matter into energy). Einsteins famous equation E=mc^2 relates the amount of energy released from matter via nuclear fission. 'm' is mass and c is the speed of light. This is a tremendous amount of energy. It is not widely used today because generation of nuclear energy by this method leaves behind radioactive byproducts that take thousands of years to degrade and is difficult to store. Accidents in nuclear reactors can result in really bad disasters (look up Chernoble).

Nuclear fusion is what takes place in the centers of stars. This is where the hydrogen nucleii are fused together to form helium nucleii. This requires a tremendous amount of energy to accomplish even though during the process a tremendous amount of energy is released. Nuclear fusion has never been accomplished a normal room temperatures. It is, as of now, impractical, as a source of energy.

3) fission is more practicle because fusion is extremely hard to do because it takes a lot of energy to do and it is very difficult to control it. so thats why fission is better and fusion is not a major energy source today
