I don't shop at petsmart, but I do bring my dog along to my pet supplies store. They seem disappointed if they don't see her!
I've also brought a few hedgehogs, my guinea pig, rats,my bird, a few chinchillas. I've never brought my cats because I know how they stress out just going to the vet.
They didn't have leashes but they were contained. I let people pet my dog if they ask, but I don't let them handle any of the others.

My dog loves the petstore! She knows where she needs to sit so she gets a treat from the cashier. Plus I like to show her off :) I don't have a very common breed in my area (french bulldog) so every chance I get to educate, I take advantage! I'm planning on putting her through a therapy dog program, so all the extra socialization is a plus

I don't take my pets to the pet store because I don't want to hear all the whining about "can we get this???" "you promised if I was good you'd buy me something next time we went to the store..." and "everyone else in the store is getting something, you just don't love us very much." And then the sulking afterwards. But I absolutely LOVE seeing everyone else's babies cruising the aisles cause I don't get to see all these types of critters in my everyday life. As far as which pets are allowed in a store, I'd just call the store and ask. I would suspect store policies differ from place to place depending on what management wants and/or what previous problems certain animals have caused (and there's always the consideration of contamination since ferrets, rats, hamsters, snakes, etc. are normally not innoculated against whatever diseases, parasites, fungi, etc. their species may carry).

You shouldn't put rodents, especially guinea pigs, on those little leashes. They are just not built right for their little bodies, and they can get hurt pretty easily. There's nothing wrong with carrying them in your arms, though, or letting a little rat perch on your shoulder.

I usually don't take my animals to PetSmart; that only happens when they are being groomed. I would think that most animals are welcome there, although I don't think they would exactly smile on horses, cows, or other large beasts. ;) And if the weather is inappropriate to a heat-sensitive animal, they will probably look at you funny or, ideally, point out that lizards don't belong out in the snow and guinea pigs don't belong in the hot sun.

I bring my dogs on occasion (sometime it's just too much of a hassle since they get too excited). Also, I have brought my pet rats to the store - sometimes on my shoulder, sometime on leashes. I pick them up when strange dogs come around, though. People have really enjoyed seeing my rats walking around on their leashes, and I have not had any trouble about them.

I have seen people with their kittens at the store, and I think I saw one lady with her cat in her shopping cart, although I would think that cats don't enjoy the outing as much as dogs or rats, but I could be wrong...

I don't live near a PetSmart anymore but I used to take my dog in there all the time. Now I take her with me with me pretty much anywhere I go of course weather permitting and I am lucky enough to have a job that allows me to take her with me, she loves meeting new people! I think PetSmart allows any animal as long as it's on a leash as long as you clean up after it, but I think they would prefer it just be cats and dogs.

No, but I own cats. I think I might if I owned a small dog. I think it's a great idea. What I don't like seeing dogs that are not helper dogs out in public. I was walking in the mall the other day and a dog pooped on the ground right in front of us. The owner saw it but just continued to walk on. Also, I have many of friends who are very allergic to some animals, and they shouldn't have to worry about their pet allergies out in public spaces. But at a pet store I doubt anyone is going to go there if they have pet allergies and I think it's cute to see the doggies running around there.

Yes, my dog loves any special outing or adventure I take her on. The bar accross the street from my house lets me bring her in in the afternoons, I can tie her leash by the pool tables and she watches me play! Even if I have several errands, she doesnt mind hanging out in the car. I think all leashed animals are allowed in except big things like horses.

Hey! well, to make this easier, I'll answer in order.
1- yes, I bring my little dog in to petstores.
2-Yes, I have seen alot of people bring pets into petstroes. especially petsmart, if they want to get a groom or something like that.
3-My pets like it because I always give them treats. You can give them treats, liike get them simple and cheap toys, that way they like going with you.
4- well, just in case, just bring animals that they might sell, just to not cause problems. If you do bring other pets, make sure the're in like a cage or that you are able to control them.

I love taking my dog to Petsmart. Last time was after visiting the vet. I let him sniff around and choose a toy. And he always gets a treat at the checkout counter!
