Well, if they are "illegal," they shouldn't even BE here, but if they ARE legally here, they should be forced to learn English because that is what the overwhelming amount of the country speaks!
We can't be expected to "work together" when we don't even know what were SAYING to each other! We MUST speak one tongue!

First: What is an "illegal spanish speaker" ?
Second, why would this be important. When you go to France on vacation for instance, would you like to be locked up in the Bastile because you can't speak French? Or in Italy, Italian. Etc.
Perhaps you would like our already burgeoning prisons even more overcrowded with honest hardworking people who just don't happen to speak your language?

If they are here illegally, why should we spend money to teach them English? If we send them home where they belong, they don't need English. If we spent money on teaching an illegal English, it would be easier for them to assimilate the next time they cross the border!
It should be a requirement for becoming a legal citizen of this country & I believe that it is a requirement that they know, at least, the rudiments of English before they can become citizens.

Remember that out of the 900+ million Americans barely 290 million are native English speaking folks.

English should be the official national language, it will save the taxpayers a great deal of money. The most effective way to assimilate into a society is to learn the language.
If by "illegal spanish speakers" you mean illeagl aliens, they should not be forced to learn english, they should be jailed and deported.

NO !! first they should be sent home , then apply to come here legally then made to learn our language , which includes reading it , writing it, and speaking it , then they need to be taught how to live ,and act in our society .....

If they are here illegaly they should be deported, but we should be kind about it right? I mean in Mexico they rape, torture and kill illegal immigrants from Guatamala. I only propose we just deport them, nothing more.

Are you suggesting we should train the "illegals" in english before we send them back to Mexico, or are you suggesting they should stay here? Personally, I welcome them just the way they are.
