Mali is a landlocked country in the middle of West Africa. The capitol is Bamako. Timbuktu is a real city, it's located in the northern part of the country which is mostly Sahara desert. The most commonly spoken or "market" language is Bambara, and the official language is French. There are at least 14 other ethnic languages spoken.
Mali is also known as the home of the Dogon people.
Two well-known Malian musicians were nominated for grammy awards this year: Ali Farka Touré and Salif Keita.
the word "mali" means hippopotamus.
The malian population is about 90% Muslim.
In my opinion, Mali produces the best mangos in the world!
